Not only because it would work in a completely physical space, but also because it creates a very surreal atmosphere for the player, which would help facilitate an atmosphere of 'easy fun', as well as an 'altered state'. Both being very important factors which were illustrated early on in our course with you.

I hope you're doing well and are enjoying your time at Stanford University. Please feel free to forward any other innovations you come across. It's all very much appreciated.

Take care!

LLuke-Dominic Butterworthhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02481029291852670001noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7348619965219609351.post-31949840822963083172010-05-20T02:50:08.612-07:002010-05-20T02:50:08.612-07:00The domain name isnt that important I dont think, ...The domain name isnt that important I dont think, you can always just URL redirect or somethingDaniel Bhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14253120353425404644noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7348619965219609351.post-21180999708781962912010-05-16T21:37:14.822-07:002010-05-16T21:37:14.822-07:00Ok so I've been trying all this stuff out over...Ok so I've been trying all this stuff out over the past few days but since a lot of it is passing over my head I've come to the conclusion that I probably wont be able to implement this unless I see an example that is fairly similar to exactly what we are doing.
I understand how the two programs can talk to each other but not how to get them to do what we want.Daniel Bhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14253120353425404644noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7348619965219609351.post-38704368967264082292010-05-13T06:04:43.433-07:002010-05-13T06:04:43.433-07:00Sounds its getting there. As it stands, I think we're all in agreement that a refined version of Bubble Popper for the final demo night is the way to go. All we need to do is clear up the multiplayer and scoring issues, and then we can concentrate on embelishing the game with extra features.

Nick came up with an idea for implementing multiplayer, which basically involves making the the IR LEDs flash at varying frequencies in order to differentiate between the players. The downside is that we may need to alter some of the code in the Wiimote Whiteboard and/or write the entire bubble popping program in C#.

Probably best to speak with Nick directly, and let him explain it.

We should probably get together at some point to discuss feasibility and so forth. Everyone's pretty busy at the moment, so perhaps a weekend meeting is in order?

Let me know, y'all.

LLuke-Dominic Butterworthhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02481029291852670001noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7348619965219609351.post-27286211931601369752010-04-20T09:38:40.851-07:002010-04-20T09:38:40.851-07:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.Big Brotherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06442999555904486845noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7348619965219609351.post-62938585848043126382010-04-19T10:23:33.568-07:002010-04-19T10:23:33.568-07:00Great job team! :)Great job team! :)Krotanahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11347397379625769613noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7348619965219609351.post-74104773250692276122010-04-10T19:40:55.926-07:002010-04-10T19:40:55.926-07:00Sounds great, do it!Sounds great, do it!Florian 'Floyd' Muellerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17545757857242519792noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7348619965219609351.post-35476439678947966812010-04-08T09:33:58.540-07:002010-04-08T09:33:58.540-07:00Thanks Floyd!

Our preliminary game testing was extremely useful, and hopefully we can develop a compelling demonstration by next week.

Also, whilst preparing for my presentation earlier this week - the one involving the use of an infrared LED pen to draw via the Wiimote - I started to think about how this method of motion tracking may be better than the hue detection in Max/MSP. For example, the bubbles that appear on our projection would be able to vary in colour, rather than just having to remain the same.

I still really love the idea of colourful, over-sized mittens though, so perhaps we could have colourful, oversized mittens with IR LEDs at the tip of each index finger? Just a thought.

Thanks again for the encouragement, Floyd. We'll try to update more regularly. :)Luke-Dominic Butterworthhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02481029291852670001noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7348619965219609351.post-30717800513104342822010-04-08T09:04:34.139-07:002010-04-08T09:04:34.139-07:00Daniel, this is fantastic! As well as being fun for the player this could also be fun for the spectator, watching the pain for victory element.Daniel Bhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14253120353425404644noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7348619965219609351.post-9101356151198751432010-03-15T08:13:11.144-07:002010-03-15T08:13:11.144-07:00Hey Paco.
This is great work! I really appreciate...Hey Paco.

This is great work! I really appreciated the visuals and links you provided. In fact, playing Simon online got me back in touch with how I felt when playing it as a child. To be honest, I was never really captivated by Simon as a kid. I think the game works primarily on the basis of 'easy fun', yet the reward for my curiosity was predictable, so I found myself getting bored quickly. (I.E. Pressing the lights correctly just led to more of the same.)

So, with that in mind, I believe The Dancinator could work, provided we provide something more rewarding for the player along with the increased difficulty. Like different lighting effects or more exciting music.

In fact, this makes me think of an artwork that was on exhibition at Experimenta: Utopia Now. It is titled 'International Dance Party', and basically, it was a jukebox that responded to movement. The more you danced, the more it pumped up the music and played an awesome light show.

What do you think of a game that would have a touch sensitive 'Twister' style mat on the floor, and a sound and visual system that is informed by the player's performance on the mat? This may be cheaper and easier, and rather than touching the semi-transparent balls, the player could dance where a light pops up on the mat. This point would move around and the player would need to touch/step on it to win, much like in Twister. The game would start out easy, with one shifting light on the floor, leading up to two. When three and four points appear, they player would need to use his or her hands to keep playing. This could be fun, because the player would need to 'breakdance' in order to get a high score, and to keep the spectacular light and sound show rolling.

Anyway, I think the Dancinator concept has potential. Let me know what you think.Luke-Dominic Butterworthhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02481029291852670001noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7348619965219609351.post-19869609985424614932010-03-13T19:06:21.378-08:002010-03-13T19:06:21.378-08:00Hey Floyd, its not a trampoline, but what an amazi...Hey Floyd, its not a trampoline, but what an amazing idea! ( Screen )

A dot is moving around and you have to catch it with your feet by jumping on it. It would come with levels - Easy - Medium - Hard.

The dot would be jumping from one spot to another and the size of the dot would be changing as it moves spots. This game would get physically exhausting as you play a harder level.

It could also be developed further to make tricky.. such as having a few dots going at once and you have to jump on a specific size of a dot or color of a dot.

This is one idea so far from me.

Cant wait to hear all your ideas.
06 March at 17:17 · Delete post

Another interesting game I came up with today after seeing the word "laughing" in Floyd's itune library.
Its called "Laughing game.. Now i havent put much thought into this yet.. so i know it sounds a bit lame and odd. I spoke with Paco and we both questioned .. What triggers the person to laugh. but anyway this would be a physical game and also a "therapy game" for people that play games to get ther mind off things. Its also a healthy game, laughing makes people live longer. Its a fitness game by getting a harder 6 pac. Anyway just a random odd idea.

I still like the idea above guys.. we could probably discuss these further when we meetSev Alihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13374208928218722367noreply@blogger.com
